Ontario Drive & Gear Expands Precision Capabilities with New Kapp Niles KNG 350 Platform

March 2025

As a trusted leader in high-precision gear and shaft manufacturing, ODG Gear is pleased to announce the installation of the revolutionary KNG 350 Flex from Kapp Niles, Germany.

Installed in early 2024, this machine tool strengthens ODG Gear’s ability to deliver world-class gearing solutions while supporting the growing needs of customers across agricultural, industrial, defense, mobility, material handling, and specialized sectors.

Representing one of the most advanced gear grinding platforms available today, the KNG 350 FlLex is ideally suited for the ODG niche of low volume, high mix product applications, due to a design optimized for operator interface and set-up excellence.

Capable of spur and helical gearing up to 350mm diameters and 700mm lengths, in modules of 0.5 to 10 [50 to 2.5 diametral pitch], and helix angles of up to ± 45 degrees, this grinding solution is capable of both worm (generative) and profile grinding, while enjoying operational efficiencies above previous generation platforms.

This automated machine solution allows for the use of combination grinding and polishing wheels, further enhancing the micro-geometry and quality control, providing ODG with improved capabilities for some of the most demanding modern drive applications.

ODG Installs State-of-the-Art Cylindrical Grinding Platform

July 2023

Ontario Drive and Gear Limited recently installed the latest in cylindrical grinding technology, a 2023 Studer S33.

Equipped with many options, including the turret wheel-head allowing for two external and one internal grinding spindle with automatic swivel, the latest intelligent operating system, and liquid-cooled Granitan® machine base, the S33 improves ODG Gear’s ability to manufacture the highest quality products. “The S33 is the perfect compliment to our existing capabilities”, says Brendan Purcell, Business Development Manager. “It’s triple working head allows for the efficient grinding and polishing of multiple critical features on either end of the workpiece, as well as internal and external features, without the need for multiple setups; in some cases compressing three manufacturing steps into a single, accurate, process.”
